    Fruity Nutty
    Tree Planting!

Join Victory Garden Initiative for a wonderful weekend of planting trees, meeting neighbors, and celebrating spring. We are excited for our 6th year of planting trees!

Victory Garden Initiative believes that perennial food crops (those that do not have to be planted yearly) are a crucial part of a more sustainable and diverse urban food system. While many are now growing peas and lettuce in small backyard plots, we envision a Milwaukee with apples, hazelnuts, pears, peaches, and blueberries in yards and community orchards. The Fruity Nutty BLITZ brings this vision to fruition, but we need your help!

Please bring a shovel and gloves (if you have them), water bottle,  and a vision for a healthier, greener Milwaukee.

This year, we will be meeting at the Victory Garden Urban Farm (220 E Concordia Ave). You can sign up for morning, afternoon, or all days shifts. If we have more volunteers than trees, we'll have plenty of projects to work on at the Farm! You may be able to get a sneak peek at VGI's new Farmhouse too.

Some volunteers will be able to travel to the planting sites in VGI trucks, but some volunteers will likely have to travel to the planting sites in their own vehicles. We also ask that you plan to travel to the planting sites in your own vehicle if you are bringing children under the age of 16.

Please contact eric@victorygardeninitiative.org or call (414) 727-2292 with any questions.

The Victory Garden BLITZ provides hundreds of affordable raised garden beds for residents in Greater Milwaukee, while simultaneously bringing together hundreds of volunteers for an inspiring day of community-building.

Please fill out the following registration form where you can let us know each day you plan on volunteering for the BLITZ (May 12-26, 2018). Please DO NOT sign up for any shift that says **This shift is FULL** - our system doesn't let us close down individual days, so this is how we have to put limits on the registration. We want to make sure that everyone has a great volunteer experience, and we can only accommodate so many volunteers!

If you would like to volunteer on May 17th for Colectivo Day, please sign up here.

If you do not have a team, don’t worry! We will match you with one on the day(s) of this fantastic, fun-filled event! If you are registering as a team, we ask that each member register individually, using your team name (you will be prompted to fill in your team name on the form).

Additional Information: The Victory Garden BLITZ provides hundreds of affordable raised garden beds for residents in Greater Milwaukee, while simultaneously bringing together hundreds of volunteers for an inspiring day of community-building. Anyone can purchase a Victory Garden for their yard or business, but each year at least half of our gardens go to low-income recipients. We want to make sure that everyone has access to fresh, healthy food in the city!

This is one of our most fun and popular volunteer events of the year. You'll get to work with a team and travel from site to site all over Milwaukee to help your neighbors grow more food. Come ready to work hard, get a little dirty, and enjoy the excitement of the Victory Garden BLITZ!

Volunteer duties will vary depending on which day you choose, but will likely involve moving soil or constructing gardens.

No experience is necessary to get involved with the Victory Garden BLITZ! At the beginning of each day, we'll have a rally and training session for all new volunteers on how to construct a garden. The BLITZ can be physically strenuous, so plan accordingly.

Due to our insurance policy, anyone under the age of 14 is not allowed to volunteer at this event. However, we would love to have their help at the Farm and at other events throughout the year.

What if I can't lift heavy items or do physical work?

We will likely have other tasks for you to work on, such as constructing and spray painting signs. Get in touch with our Program Manager Eric if this is the case for you: Eric@VictoryGardenInitiative.org or 414-431-0888.
